The Malaysian government has launched a series of measures in order to boost investment in the country. Major interventions include è the establishment of so-called “free trade zones”.

In this sense, companies established in certain areas of the country enjoy a whole series of tax benefits, such as:

  • exemption from’value-added tax for supplies of goods or services occurring within the territory of the state;
  • exemption for duties and indirect taxes for machinery or equipment instrumental to the’operation of the business imported;
  • exemption for three years from corporate income tax and social security and social security contributions for employees;
  • when enterprises use at least 60 percent local materials and goods in the production cycle, at the end of the “free trade zone”facilitation, they enjoy a’reduced relative corporate income tax rate of 25 percent for an additional 3 years;
  • if enterprises reinvest at least 5% of their annual revenues, they enjoy the’25% rate for an additional two years. If enterprises export between 50 percent and 80 percent of their output, they can enjoy an’extension of the benefit of the reduced rate for an additional two years.
