Import/Export in Hungary

1 - Anyone who carries out transactions relevant for VAT purposes in Hungary must open a Hungarian VAT number, bearing in mind in any case that the standard rate in that State is among the highest in Europe.

2 - Anyone wishing to export to Hungary must remember that Hungary has entered into numerous free trade agreements with countries and supranational organizations other than the European Union and its member states. The exchange activity with these countries generally takes place without the need for any license except in the case of export to Hungary of some products (for example potentially dangerous chemicals), indicated in a specific government decree, for which the license is request.

3 - Anyone wishing to export goods classified as "dual use" to Hungary must necessarily comply with the rules established on the subject by the European Union, which has issued various regulations over the years (see today the EU Regulation 388/2012) which provide precise the export of such technologies and / or products within the EU territory.

If the products and technologies qualifying as "dual use" come from a Member State and are exported or transferred to Hungary, no authorization is required. Only for a series of products directly related to the production and management of military material and chemical weapons is it necessary to request prior authorization from the competent state authority.
